one minute you laugh.....

Well, I had an interview today. It was at Carr Quality Promotions in Morrisville. I thought it went pretty well, but then again there was around 9 others being interviewed while I was there, plus more from this morning and after I left. The guy I interviewed with was real nice and said if I heard something from them around 5 then great. It's 10:35 and no phone call. Oh well......

I've said this before when it came to finding the right guy, but for as long as I've waiting for a job I should hit the friggin' jackpot when I finally land one. It's just not fair. I've busted my butt for 4 years in college gaining the knowledge that would propel me in any career path I choose. Now, I just sit at home watching "Friends" and playing with the dog. Don't get me wrong, I love "Friends" and my dog, but I don't get paid for that. I have my resume and applications out to numerous places on the Internet, I can't do more than that until I get called. I don't have things handed to me. Not that having things handed to you is bad, it just frustrates me. I've done all I could up to this point. I just now feel like I'm trudging through quicksand.

I do know that my NASCAR resume has been sent to 24 teams. Divided up by series:
-NCS (Nextel Cup Series): 5
-BGN (Busch Grand National): 6
-CTS (Craftsman Truck Series): 5
-ARCA (I don't know what that stands for, sorry): 3
-OSCS (Other Stock Car Series): 2
-Other (This would be PR/marketing firms-like fingerprint, inc who does Dale Jr's PR): 3

I even applied to a marketing position at NASCAR HQ in Daytona. I'm getting it out there, but my phone has yet to ring.

Now that I'm still on my NASCAR kick (like when I'm ever off of it?)--I give you my New Hampshire musings:

-Were there any other teams at the track? All TNT could cover was the "penalties" handed down to the 24 and 48 teams..."How can they rebound?" "Will they go on without the leadership of Chad and Steve?" For the love of common sense!! Jeff and Jimmie are racers! They rebound by getting in that car and driving the darn wheels off it! Get over it already. Because of that coverage, a rumor about Kasey Kahne joining DEI (which I had to read about on foxsports.com) was clearly overlooked.
-Speaking of Kasey (and the rest of the Evernham stable): Scott Riggs didn't make his 2nd consecutive race, Elliott Sadler finished a couple of laps down, and after starting 28th Kasey finished an admirable 25th. I don't know what's going on over there in Statesville. Maybe it's this talk about bringing in investors. Something isn't right over there. If I do get a call from a team, I hope it's not EMS...they may not have enough money to pay me.
-Denny Hamlin can finally put that tissue box away. I used to like Denny Hamlin, but after his hissy fit got his entire over the wall crew replaced, not so much. And especially after he replaced Aric Almorola (I hope I spelled that right) in the Busch race at Milwuakee 2 weeks ago. Sponsor pressure? I don't really buy that. It very well could be true, but as the marketing person I am, I would hope that a company would relish in the fact that they are backing a developmental driver. FYI--Aric is slated to be in the #20 Rockwell Automation car in Friday's Busch race. Let's hope he actually finishes the race and gets the finish he deserves.
-A wayward wheel got the attention of everyone on and off the track. HEADS UP!! Thank goodness for those catch fences.
-Dale Jr was "slightly" displeased with the 66 car. Really "slightly" displeased. Got that one from Jade's blog...hehe. Junior wasn't the only one "slightly" displeased with that car. I was screaming at my television as if I was watching a UNC basketball game!
-Martin Truex Jr and Dale Jr got top 5 finishes again. Will DEI be AOK? Only time will tell (especially after Daytona). What goes up must come down---same goes for Hendrick.
-Tony Jr has got some big shoes to fill. Let's continue and finish what Tony Gibson left us!
-Off to Daytona!! Jr's running a special paint scheme and he's had some success with special paint schemes at Daytona in the past.......

Since I don't have a job (yet) I get to go with my family to Nashville, Tennessee in August! My aunt, niece, grandma, and step-grandpa are coming out from Arizona. My dad talked to my aunt this evening and she said that my niece really wants me to come! Awwwww! If having someone look up to you doesn't fill your heart, I don't know what does!

calm down, there's no need to get testy

Dale Earnhardt Jr. (R) shakes hands with team owner Rick Hendrick (L) during a news conference, announcing that Earnhardt will drive for Hendrick Motorsports in 2008, at JR Motorsports in Mooresville, North Carolina, June 13, 2007. REUTERS/Chris Keane (UNITED STATES)

Dale Earnhardt Jr, right, team owner Rick Hendrick, center, and Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, left, pose for a photo during a news conference in Mooresville, N.C., Wednesday, June 13, 2007.

It's official: Dale Earnhardt Jr will join Hendrick Motorsports in 2008

I was going to copy and paste the transcript, but it's like a mile long. Bottom line: Hendrick has top-tier equipment and can give Junior what he wants: Championships.

It was so good to see Junior smile today. Actually "smile" is an understatement, Junior was beaming today.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. smiles during a news conference in Mooresville, N.C., Wednesday, June 13, 2007. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is joining Hendrick Motorsports, hopefully moving one step closer to a championship that has eluded him while driving for his late father's company.

I'm so happy he's found a team. I love Dale Jr and will support him no matter what number, sponsor, or teammates he has!

Larry McReynolds says Rick Hendrick gives all four teams what they need to win, and that's all Dale Earnhardt Jr. wanted in a new team.

A 'wow' day in NASCAR

This is totally like the dream team of NASCAR. This is a marketers DREAM!!! Mr. Hendrick, if you're hiring, I'm available!!! Will egos be a problem? No. I mean they haven't so far with Jeff and Jimmie. I may have to get 24, 25, and 48 decals for my car.......ummm, we'll see about that

What about Budweiser? They want to maintain their relationship with Dale Jr. According to a statement they look forward to talks with Hendrick Motorsports in order to keep their relationship. Back in the day, Budweiser was on Hendrick's 25 car.

What about the No. 8? If Dale Jr had his way, he'd still like to be driver 8. Rick threw out the possibility of a trade between the 8 and 5, if Kyle Busch goes to DEI and IF (and that's a huge IF) Teresa agrees to sell the rights to the No. 8. Let's hope she has enough sense to do that. I think Junior at least deserves the number.

And Rick already has plans to expand his gift shop. My dad said he had something to do with this deal. You see, he just bought a new Chevrolet Silverado from Performance Chevrolet, which is owned by Rick Hendrick. He said that him buying this truck finalized everything......hahaha, sure thing Dad.

son's gonna rise

alrighty now......dale earnhardt jr is holding a press conference tomorrow at jr motorsports to announce his plans for 2008 and beyond. reports from espn and nascar.com are stating that he will be at hendrick motorsports, either replacing kyle busch in the #5 or casey mears in the #25 who could move into the #5. sounds as though either way, kyle busch is out at HMS.....poor thing.

my take on it? GO DALE JR!!!! i've been reading blogs and comments from infield parking and i can't believe what some of these "fans" are saying. they say they're true fans, but their whole spill goes something like this: "i consider myself a true jr fan, but i will not pull for him if he goes to hendrick". WTF?!? you don't put limitations on your loyalty!! believe me....i stuck with the tarheels through an 8 and 20 season....i know rough seasons!! a fan, a true fan, sticks with their driver/team regardless of changes. i was still a proud member of the jr nation in 2005 during that infamous team switch. do these people not realize that dale sr gave rick hendrick is first busch series win?

i just don't understand why people hate the hendrick organization. is it because they found what it takes to win? they have the resources and knowledgeable people? and don't go into that "they're a bunch of cheaters" crap. every nascar team tries to find ways to give them an advantage...sometimes they get caught. winning is so darn hard in the cup series, can you ridicule a team for trying to get an advantage?

i guess people "hate" hendrick they way i hate duke basketball. wait......."hate" is too strong a word. duke has an outstanding basketball program, just like hendrick is an outstanding racing organization. there is no valid reason. but would i pull for duke if tyler hansbrough transferred? hard to say...perhaps? but i would probably keep up with the nba team he ends up playing for. okay...getting off track here (hahaha...get it?)

i'm a fan of dale earnhardt jr--not dei, not budweiser, not wrangler. i don't care what color car he drives (although my car is red for a reason), what sponsor is plastered over the car, or what team he drives for. i have seen some designs for a #5 budweiser car that looks pretty awesome.

jeff gordon has said that it would be cool to have dale jr as a teammate. probably because it would stop people from throwing things at him. jimmie johnson has said that he doesn't know how dale jr would fit in at hendrick, but that jr has grown and matured a lot (props to jimmie there). well jj, dale jr would probably fit in a lot better than that punk kyle busch, who just needs to go to some island and stay there. but these are just reports that are being thrown out for the media to chew on like hyennas on a carcass.

richard childress is still a wild card. childress is out of the country until thursday. that doesn't mean anything....they could've had a deal finalized before he left. i know that a lot of fans want jr at rcr and to drive that #3. no matter how many races or championships he wins, he will always be compared to his father if he goes to rcr. jr needs to be with a team where he can escape his father's shadow and embark on a legacy of his own. yes, it will be hard getting used to another number (what am i going to do with all my #8 stuff?) and perhaps a new sponsor. although i think budweiser will stay with jr....they've had a relationship with hendrick in the past with the #25. but the bottom line is...jr will still be jr no matter where he ends up next season and those that follow.

here's a song lyric from fall out boy's song on this OTH soundtrack:

And the record won't stop skipping
And the lies just won't stop slipping
And besides my reputations on the line
We can fake it for the airwaves
Force our smiles, baby, half dead
From comparing myself to everyone else around me

that is what dale jr has been facing from critics all his life. i just hope this change will shut them up.

okay......so what should i talk about on this rainy evening? hmmm...............

here's a chuckle for ya: so i told ya about this interview i had at bullet marketing group, right? i got called back for a second interview. "interview" is an understatement for what happened that day. i went out with an employee for 8 hours of door-to-door selling; in the heat of the day, no less. now, this woman asked me all sorts of questions and i swear to ya i thought i bombed it when she asked me the difference between advertising and marketing. we get through those 8 hours and get back to the office around 9pm! that is not a typo, that is the truth. i get offered the job and i'm already on the fence because i'm not all hyped up on this 8 hours on my feet all damn day selling stuff people don't give a flying fig about and i wasn't all that crazy about getting home at 11pm. but i'm always up to trying new things, so i accept it on a trial basis. now wednesday rolls around.....i get to the office around 10am after getting only 5 hours of sleep. i'm working with the same girl i went around with the day before. she informs me we will be selling in dunn. for those of you not familiar with north carolina townships, dunn is about an hour and a half southeast of raleigh; it's in the coastal plain which means it's flat and sandy with hardly any trees. so the day goes on, i'm getting blisters on my feet the size of my fist and the one on the bottom of my left foot busts. yes, gross i know, but i gotta keep on truckin'. i got separated from my partner and i didn't have my cellphone. i'm freakin out and that's when i come to the conclusion that i will not be coming back the next day. i told my partner on the way back that this is not for me. what i really wanted to say was that these people are insane to do this 8 hours a day and that they must really be desperate to have a job. i quit my job on my first day.....hahahaha. seriously, you would've done the same thing. direct selling is not the part of marketing i want to do.

so now i'm looking for something temporary until i get a call from charlotte. i already found this real nice apartment complex in mooresville off of lake norman--which is wear A LOT of drivers hang out . my mom told me about this place called tarheel temps. i could get a job with the university part-time or full-time and i can quit anytime. if that doesn't work out i can see what i can get at meredith or a mall.

okay so the rain helped jeff gordon win at pocono yesterday. pocono is a track that i can definitely live without. if i had my way, i would get rid of one pocono race, one of the road courses (probably infineon), and give another date to darlington and revive rockingham. also, i would've parked kurt busch's butt at home. this guy almost kills a crew member on pit road and all he gets is a monetary and points fine? yes, he was parked for the remainder of the dover race. that doesn't cut it, nascar. you suspended tony eury jr for using an illegal part, a part that wouldn't cause harm to anyone or anything during a race.

i was watching the news a while ago and they were talking about how it was unconstitutional to detain this US citizen who is accused of terrorist actions and was trained by bin-laden. this guy was sent to the US by bin-laden to help the master-mind behind 9/11. this guy is a known threat to america and they want to let him go just because he's a US citizen? excuse me, but when you conspire to terrorize the land of the free and home of the brave, you relinquish any use of your rights.

tomorrow is another day....

whew, it's been awhile since my last entry. sorry about that. it's not like i didn't have the time, because heaven knows i do! since graduation i have the gift of time, the problem is, i have nothing to fill that time. i went to the race (so glad kevin harvick won), hung out with some old friends, and went shopping. i did tasks and errands that normally span a couple weeks in a matter of days. hopefully after tomorrow i'll have something to cure my boredom.

i have an interview tomorrow at bullet marketing group for an entry level sports marketing position. it's something for the summer and an addition to my resume. i looked at their website and they have clients ranging from radisson hotels to the san francisco giants. hopefully i can be involved in marketing for regional teams like the carolina panthers, atlanta braves, charlotte bobcats, or maybe the washington redskins. from the looks of their portfolio, they do a lot of MLB teams. baseball's alright, i mean i'm familiar with the sport since my brother played and i played softball years ago. i still need to do my homework on this company so i don't go in there tomorrow all stupid.

my birthday's coming up this monday. we're having a party at my house on saturday for friends and family. i'm gonna be 22 years old....holy crap.

i read on espn.com that kasey kahne has a girlfriend...sad, very sad. he does this diary thing called "kahne's korner". he's so lucky to have a name where you can change words around to add the the effect of alliteration. i tell ya what, kasey's one cool liar. it was a couple of months ago, during an off-week where he said he wasn't looking for a girlfriend. is kasey like jerry maguire? he cannot be alone? i hate to say that, because i love kasey. he's a great driver and from the 10 seconds i met with him, he seems like a pretty decent guy. i just find it odd that he says he's not looking for one, and then bam he's got one. is this jealousy? hell yeah, but i know for sure i'm not the only one! it's just sad he doesn't know me! lol! everyone deserves to find that one person that makes him/her happy. so, good luck to kasey on and off the track! he'll probably lose the backing of a couple of pit lizards............such a shame. but i have better things to do than worry about who kasey kahne and dale jr is dating.

i still haven't heard anything from my nascar career search. hence the reason i have an interview tomorrow. i know my contract's for 6 months, but i have to have something to do! and plus i read that i get a salary of about $30,000 to $40,000. *crosses fingers AND toes* i don't know the company's interviewing process, but if they conduct more than one interview, i hope i get called back for a second one.

so say a prayer for me and i'll let ya'll know about my interview tomorrow!
